1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse during their lives annually and nearly 1 million live in fear of domestic abuse

Women who are living with domestic abuse are 5 times more likely to suffer from depression (Department of Health).


 1 in 6 men also experience domestic abuse. 


1 in 7 children experience living in families where there is domestic abuse.

In 90% of incidents of domestic abuse, where children are present in the home, the children will be in the same or the next room.


  • In the UK two women per week are murdered by a partner /ex-partner (Department of Health, 2005).


 Every day, approximately 30 women attempt suicide as a result of experiencing domestic abuse and every week three women take their own life.


On an average, a woman will be assaulted 35 times before she reports to the police.

Domestic abuse accounts for 16-28% of all recorded crime (Home Office,2004)
